Two months ago the front store was completely remodeled with colorful next fixtures and a new rug. The store seems much larger with the new arrangements and the merchandise is artfully displayed for easier shopping.

Service has been the key to the success of this store — even back 100 years ago when “Doctor” H.S. Richardson first purchased the store. Mr. John Watson, the next owner, was only 15 years old when he applied for a job as a clerk with “Doc” Richardson. He worked 12 to 16 hours a day and he must have given satisfaction because at the end of one year he was receiving the pay that “Doc” Richardson had promised to give him at the end of three years. John Watson was fortunate to have hired Charles R. Voigt to work for him. After working for Mr. Watson for many years, Mr. Voigt bought the store in 1943. Mr. Voigt at that time said, “It will be my aim to give the same prompt, courteous service dispensing good merchandise at fair prices as the many patrons have come to expect.” Arthur Carr, the present owner, purchased controlling interest in the store in 1958 and pledged to continue the same policies of service to the community as his predecessors.

Being energetic, and far sighted — he saw a need for drugstore supplies and services in the expanding town of Lincoln. The Richardson Drug of Lincoln was formally opened in March 1958. He later bought out the West Concord Pharmacy and moved it into luxurious quarters in the West Concord Shopping Plaza. The newest store, The Richardson Drug of Weston, was opened in March 1968. Each store has followed the tradition of giving prompt courteous service. Mr. Carr has been fortunate in having many loyal and dedicated employees — many loyal and dedicated employees — many of whom have been employed over 10 years.

Arthur Carr has been an active participant in professional and community organizations. He is a member of the American College of Apothecaries, the American Pharmaceutical Association. His latest honor was being elected a trustee of the Mass. College of Pharmacy.

He is also a director and member of the Finance Committee of the Concord Cooperative Bank, Past President of the Concord Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lions Club and member of the Concord Historic District Commission.

His son Robert, a recent, a recent graduate of Mass. College of Pharmacy has taken an active role in the stores’ operation. His daughter Nancy is currently a second year student at Mass College of Pharmacy.

Arthur and his wife Doris, an inspirational force in his many ventures, live at Farmers Clifford.

Eric R. Rosenfeld of Old Road to Nine Acre Corner is a member of the freshman class at University of Rochester.

More than 230 volunteers have been recruited in the Concord area to assist in the annual Arthritis Foundation Fund Drive; according to Miss Essie i. Golden, Sudbury rd.

It was subsequently operated as a Rexall Store under the firm name “Snow and Noll” for many years until the partnership was dissolved, with Mr. Noll retaining the West Concord store and Mr. Snow purchasing the Friend Pharmacy on the Concord Milldam. During their partnership, Snow and Noll introduced what was at the time a rather new concept in pharmaceutical merchandising, which featured the economy of purchasing drug products in quantity lots at prices materially less per lot than the cost of the half-sized lots then customarily purchased. Also, quite apart from the drug business, Snow and Noll manufactured their own ice cream and many of their own fruit syrups so successfully that they soon built up a well deserved reputation for their ice cream and sodas which drew customers (in their new automobiles) from miles around.

Along in the twenties, Charles Noll sold out to Percy McCormick who continued the business for several years until selling to a Mr. Mahan who, after one year, sold to Glenwood C. Swett on June 1, 1928. Glen Swett has owned and managed the business so well ever since that his many customers and friends, though reluctant to see him go, will all join in wishing him a happy retirement from the multi-houred, seven day per week service which he has given the community.

Alert local druggists foiled an attempt by an unidentified woman to make an illegal purchase of narcotics. This is the fourth or fifth incident in which Concord druggists have uncovered persons of this nature. In two other cases the observation of these local businessmen have resulted in the arrests and convictions of known drug addictions.
